“somewhere” by Maria Amidu in collaboration with Gil Mualem-Doron and seven other artists of BAME, migrant and refugee backgrounds is the first of SEAS’ (Socially Engaged Art Salon) online exhibitions.

Commissioned by SEAS Brighton, and supported by Art Council England, “somewhere” was originally created for Brighton Festival 2020 as a multimedia room installation. Due to the Covid-19 lockdown, and after some creative brainstorming, the project developed as an online piece. The work can be viewed here: https://tinyurl.com/SEAS-somewhere

The zoom meeting will be using “somewhere” as a platform to discuss socially engaged practices as well as exhibitions in the time of social distancing. We welcome artists and curators who would like to present the ways they have been adapting to this reality; heads of charities and community organisations who have ideas about how artists can engage with their communities while maintaining social distancing; and anybody who would like to discuss the experience of visiting or being part of online, participatory art projects.

The discussion will feed into SEAS’s preparation for their Refugee Week exhibition in June.

The link for the Zoom meeting will be published here as well as sent on Friday, May 15th to those who will confirm their attendance on the Facebook event.
