OPEN SEAS – An Open Call for Artist’s Open House 2019

Call for entries to an open, un-themed exhibition of art, titled “OPEN SEAS”, at SEAS (Socially Engaged Art Salon) in Brighton’s BMECP centre, 4 May – 2 June 2019. Issued by SEAS 12 Feb 2019.


OPEN SEAS is a month long exhibition open to all artists, including students, in any visual art media and does not have a particular theme. It will run alongside the thematic exhibition Limbo, at Brighton’s SEAS (Socially Engaged Art Salon), in the BMEPC centre in Brighton.

The exhibition will take place from May 4th until June 2nd. It is part of Artists Open House / Brighton Festival. It will include a series of workshops, film screenings and artist talks by the exhibiting artists.


OPEN SEAS is curated by SEAS’ advisory team. Submissions are welcome from emerging and mid career artists (18+). Artists from under represented groups and BME Artists are encouraged to submit work.


SEAS (Socially Engaged Art Salon) was founded in 2016 and became a beacon for social and political art in Brighton and beyond, showing the works of emerging and mid career artists from the UK and abroad. SEAS is located in the BMECP Centre, near Brighton Train Station.


Entry details:


The submission is free of charge but if works are selected artists would be asked to pay £20 for work under 50cm, £50 for larger works. There will be an opportunity to show work via a large digital screen for £10 for up to 3 images. In addition artists and craft makers will have the opportunity to sale works every Saturday / Sunday in a bazar style room. Each artist/craft maker can have one 90cm table, 1×2 meters wall space and 2 chairs for £50 basement floor (Saturday), £80 ground floor (Sunday).

The fees are for the rental of the space, admin, invigilation and PR.

Deadline for application 25th March 12pm. Responses will be given by March 30th.

Artists are expected to install their work between the 1-3rd of May.

  1. Name & contact details

  2. 100 words biography

  3. 200 words artist statement including information about the submitted works.

  4. Up to 5 images or a link to a webpage where the work can be viewed.

  5. Work name / year / media / size / price (if relevant)
