Sam Moreno Alamein

Series 661

A statement from the artist:

"I’ve worked in print media, constructed design, illustration, performance and film making; collaborating with creative forces as diverse as Björk, Dover Street Market and Dance of the African Diaspora. In 2017 I achieved my life’s ambition and ate in the revolving restaurant at the top of the Post Office Tower.

My pieces are created without conscious process, only applying reason to create a balanced aesthetic. Exploiting the power of accidental juxtapositions, I re-cast fairy-tale archetypes, figures from legend and storied antiquity, scenes from domestic and workaday life and instructive illustrations from hobby and interest guides. I use fragments of illustration from mid-century children’s publishing to create tiny theatrical sets. These are then photographed to produce original compositions that question the values with which the original imagery was loaded. The viewer brings their own unique experience and narrative to each picture, discovering a story that makes sense to them, and leading them into new areas of speculation."
