For the last 12 years, my practice has revolved primarily around 'Sites of Trauma'. These carbon drawings are just a part of a large series showing cities that have suffered the bombing of their civilian populations. This has increasingly become the norm in places of conflict. Apart from those killed, each of these would have created tens of thousands of refugees.
Chris Shaw Hughes creates highly intricate carbon drawings that document specific sites of trauma at historical moments. His work refers to documentary and news photography of places but also attempts to remind us of the trauma of the civilian populations that live within them and have become the prime target during periods of conflict and war."
